Adobe Systems president Chuck Geschke has told the San Jose Mercury News that Adobe has decided to offer its update, InDesign 1.5 to existing InDesign 1.0 customers for free. This follows promptly on from Macworld Online breaking the story of users' anger on Thursday.

The company has not yet confirmed if this ‘new deal’ applies to international customers.

Adobe announced InDesign 1.5, the first update to the page-layout software, on Monday. Internet message boards soon lit up with complaints from InDesign 1.0 customers, angry that Adobe was charging $99 for an update that included bug fixes, as we first reported exclusively in Macworld on March 15.

Adobe also reported record growth in its first-quarter earnings, with revenues rising 24 per cent last year to $282.2 million.
