Agfa has announced its support for Apple's Mac OS X in future versions of its ScanWise and FotoLook scanning software.

The company expects to release Carbonized versions of its scanning software during the third quarter of 2001. Beta versions will be available for download in June.

Peter Verhulst, international sales and marketing manager of Agfa Consumer Digital Imaging, said: "With the Mac OS X versions of ScanWise and FotoLook, our intent is to take full advantage of the new operating system's capabilities – such as increased system stability and general productivity."

Speed boost The Agfa bigwig added: "The Macintosh remains the leading platform for professional-graphics applications. Our new software, in combination with Mac OS X, will give users measurable performance advantages in scanning and image editing.”

Agfa's ScanWise software ships with the company's SnapScan scanner range, which includes the e25 (illustrated). FotoLook ships with its DuoScan and Arcus models.

ScanWise can communicate with other applications installed on the Mac, including image editors, Web browsers, word processors and print drivers.

FotoLook has been developed for the high-end scanner market – among other features, it delivers batch and halftone scanning with gamma and colour correction.
