Alsoft updated its Diskwarrior software to version 2.0 in time for Macworld Expo last week.

The new version of the disk repair utility prevents disk damage with its DiskShield feature. This checks the validity of any data being written to the directory, preventing errant programs from destroying the directory. It also checks the validity of any directory data read from users’ disks to alert them of any existing damage, and to prevent the damage from escalating.

DiskShield also keeps the directories updated so that a crash, or loss of power, won’t cause a loss of data.

The Directory Optimization Grapher, now incorporated into DiskWarrior, determines the state of fragmentation of a directory. A free copy of PlusOptimizer is included with every Diskwarrior CD.
