Apple's chief financial officer Fred Anderson has taken a seat on the board of Crystal Decisions, an information-management software company with 12 million customers.

Anderson also sits on the board of 3Com, has served on the board of MAI Systems Corporation, and is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Board.

"I am excited to participate on the board of one of the fastest growing software companies in the world," said Anderson.

"After significant due diligence, I decided that Crystal Decisions offered a great opportunity to contribute to a company with tremendous growth potential."

Crystal Decisions' president and CEO John Judge said: "Given the current environment of increased scrutiny in all areas of corporate governance, we are honoured to have someone of Fred's calibre join our board.

"His proven track record of superior financial management at Apple and his previous board experiences make him a tremendous asset to Crystal Decisions. We believe that he is the perfect addition for our board of directors."
