Apple has announced the dates of its annual Worldwide Developer Conference: August 7-11, 2006. Intel normally holds its Fall Intel Developers Conference a week later.

The company explains: "WWDC 2006 is a perfect opportunity to take your work to the next level. Discover tools and techniques for optimising your code on Intel-based Macs, explore best practices for choosing and using the latest APIs, and learn how to make the most of the technologies and services built into Mac OS X."

Apple usually announces new operating system features and other platform-specific changes at the event, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been known to offer a keynote speech to Apple's developer community at WWDC.
