Apple and Samsung have abandoned plans to make a joint investment in a new flash memory fab.

Apple had been considering entering into a joint $3.8 billion investment in new plant with the South Korean firm. However, discussions have been abandoned for now, with the California company complaining at local market anti-Samsung sentiment.

Samsung's move to agree a major flash memory deal with Apple has drawn the attention of local anti-trust regulators. Local MP3 player manufacturers have also complained the deal to be against the interests of local businesses.

Samsung reportedly sold Apple 40 per cent of its flash memory production at a discount rate. Apple had planned the joint investment to secure flash memory stocks for its music players.

Apple is now talking to a US flash memory maker, a report claims.
