Apple CEO Steve Jobs is one of the most highly-rated 'bosses that delivered', according to Forbes.

The mercurial Apple co-founder jumped from number 81 to number 18 in the financial title's leader ratings this year.

Each year, Forbes surveys the compensation CEOs at 500 of the largest US firms receive. Compensation is analyzed against performance, based on six years performance on the stock market.

"In one year Apple's earnings rose 295 per cent", Forbes observes. "More importantly, Apple shareholders were rewarded with a six-year annualized total return of 29 per cent, compared to -1 per cent for the Standard & Poors 500. Over the past six years, Jobs has been paid an average of $14.6 million per year in total compensation
