Along with the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 update, Apple on Thursday issued an update for its Retina MacBook Pro to bring several bug fixes to the line-up, including a fix for the fan speed issue.

Apple explains that the MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update v1.1 update "resolves a rare issue where users may experience slow frame rates when playing graphics-intensive games on the 15in MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It also includes bug fixes for Power Nap, wake from sleep and fan control."

The company also says the update addresses the fan speed issue with the Retina display models. Earlier this week, we reported that owners of the latest MacBook Pro with Retina display models were experiencing fan speed issues that cause the cooling fan in the laptops to spike during basic tasks.

The issue was described in multiple threads on the Apple Support Communities forum, including one with 465 replies since the first post in January, so these users will be pleased to hear that Apple has addressed the issue in Thursday's update.

Retina MacBook Pro owners can install the update via Software Update.
