Apple has hired Quanta Computer as one of its video iPod contract makers.
Citing the Chinese Economic Daily News, DigiTimes reports that volume shipments will begin next month. Inventec has been the sole contract iPod video maker until now.
The move to source a second supplier may reflect stronger-than-anticipated sales of the product. It's possible – though not confirmed – that a recent report claiming the 60GB iPod to have been placed on a "At Risk list" may have reflected supply problems and nothing else.
Foxconn and Asustek make iPod nanos and iPod shuffles respectively.
The report ends by claiming that Apple plans to phase the iPod shuffle out "soon".
