Despite the attempts of other companies to steal its market share, Apple still has the upper hand in the digital music market because it understands what users really want.
IDC analyst Susan Kevorkian told Time: "There's a gap between understanding what users want and being able to provide it. Apple's main edge is the iPod's sophisticated software and deceptively simple user interface."
But Apple shouldn't rest on its laurels. "In a device category as young as digital-music players and services, no lead is insurmountable," she added.
