Apple chief operating officer Timothy Cook is to join Nike's board of directors.

Cook becomes Nike's eleventh board member, and he will sit on its compensation committee, reports CNet

A former Compaq executive, Cook now runs Apple's Macintosh division and is responsible for Apple's worldwide sales and operations.

Cook joined Apple in 1998 as senior vice president of operations, and was promoted to executive vice president of worldwide sales and operations in 2002.
