Apple has officially released an update to Mac OS 9 - version 9.0.4 – which has additional FireWire and USB support, and enhanced networking and power management.

The update also improves audio, video and graphics functionality, according to Apple's notes.

Apple caused a stir among Macintosh users at the end of March by apparently posting the update too early.

The International English version can be downloaded from Apple's Web site. According to Apple, Mac OS 9 users can also download the software via the Software Update control panel.

iMac DV, PowerMac G4 and PowerBook (FireWire) users will also have to download the DVD Player 2.2 update, which is available from the same site as the Mac OS update.
