Apple plans a major design upgrade for its iMac range, a report claims.

The company's senior vice-president of design, Jonathan Ive, has been leading the redesign process, a report on Apple Insider claims. The current iMac design is now three years old.

The report says the newly-designed iMacs will boast a, "substantial facelift that will showcase striking new industrial designs aimed at leaving both competitors and onlookers smitten."

The new iMacs will reportedly be slimmer and sleeker than before, and will be built for high definition content, the report implies. Apple Insider adds that Apple may strike the 17-inch iMac from the range.

In the UK, resellers have reported shortages of iMacs in distribution channels.
