Apple has released a Mac OS X 10.4.5 update for server, PowerPC and Intel Mac systems.

Multiple versions of the software are available for download through Mac OS X's Software Update feature or for direct download from the company's support pages.

The 10.4.5 Update is described as: "Recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for other applications and technologies."

A series of improvements have been made. For example, Telestream Flip4Mac now installs correctly on an Intel-based Mac.

The update also addresses an issue in which some Epson printers could not successfully print via AirPort Extreme.

Additional improvements include:
iChat video conferencing;
Safari rendering of web pages;
Usability of Dashboard and widgets;
Viewing of QuickTime streaming media behind a firewall;
iDisk and Portable Home Directory syncing;
Time zone and daylight savings for 2006 and 2007;
VPN connections to Cisco servers when using NAT;
Compatibility with third-party applications and devices;
Previous standalone security updates.

Four versions of the software are available now:
Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 is a 16MB download;
Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 for Intel is a 98MB download;
Mac OS X Server 10.4.5 is a 14.5MB download;
Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo is a 125MB download.
