Apple has launched a Science and Technology area on its Web site.

The launch follows the appointment of Arthur Levinson, CEO of genetic research firm Genentech, to Apple's board of directors in August.

When the appointment was announced, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: "Levinson is a respected CEO and leads one of the most important and successful science-based companies of our time."

Research Apple's SciTech site aims to show how Apple technologies can help advance scientific research.

Topics covered include bioscience, health science, geodesics, genetics and radiology.

The site includes sections on Macs as research tools, and a list of scientific conferences and events.
