Apple has released a bundle of information about the Grand Opening of the Apple Store on Regent Street, scheduled to take place on Saturday November 20, 10am.

The Grand Opening will be celebrated with giveaways and competitions galore. The first 2,500 people through the door will receive an Apple T-shirt. A digital lifestyle collection worth over £2,000 is up for grabs.

Apple will provide 300 Lucky Bags – a big hit at the opening of the first Apple Store in Japan. Lucky Bags have an estimated value of over £700, and will be on sale for £249. Bags could be full of digital-lifestyle software, or may hold an iPod, or Airport Express, for example.

Apple has 250 special events planned to mark the opening of the store. These will include giveaways, music events, special workshops, and guest appearances from well-known members of the Mac community. Apple has provided a Grand Opening calendar that can be downloaded here.

What's On

On Sunday November 21 New Zealand's Steriogram will be performing live in an exclusive show. Steriogram's single Walkie Talkie Man has featured in an iPod advert.

Apple will host a series of lectures in the store's Theatre. Macworld columnist Andy Ihnakto will present on Monday November 22 at 7pm. He says he will "explain the universe". He’ll also cover Mac OS tricks and tidbits, how to iChat with home appliances, using AppleScript to intimidate house pets, and what 2005 holds for Mac users.

On Tuesday November 23 record producer Steve Levine will deliver a masterclass about record production techniques. He will also discuss how advances in computer technology have affected the music industry.

Tuesday November 30 will see Nick Hayes show a range of illustrations, moving images and typography, and demonstrate how such work can be produced using Mac hardware and software.

On December 1 the Apple Store will host a gathering of creative professionals encouraging discussion of the latest news and trends.

The store is located at 235 Regent Street. Opening hours will be 10am–9pm Monday to Saturday, and 12-6pm on Sunday. Apple provides a map and travel directions here.
