Apple has requested a trademark on the phrase "Mac Pro", suggesting that this may be the new name for the company's professional desktops.

The trademark application was made in New Zealand's Intellectual Property Office. This may follow a trend that has seen the company apply for trademarks in countries other than the US - perhaps to put competitors and the media of the trail.

This trend was reported by The Street.

That report also notes applications for iPod HiFi (filed in Hong Kong) and Numbers (filed in Malaysia) that hints at a spreadsheet programme similar to Excel.
