Apple has announced a special event on October 23 at which it will reveal details of a new digital device, according to reports from Cnet.

The event, which takes place at 6pm BST will be for the "unveiling of a breakthrough digital device", according to media invitations currently doing the rounds in the US.

According to sources, the invitation to see the new device carries on it the message: "Hint: it's not a Mac." Cnet sources suggest a digital-music device of some kind, potentially built to integrate with iTunes. To support its suspicions, Cnet looks to Apple CEO Steve Jobs vision for Apple as a "digital hub".
