Apple has released new Xserve RAID Admin software, version 1.5.

Apple's remote management software for its powerful network storage product offers an easy-to-use, graphical UI for setting up and monitoring storage volumes.

Apple says: "This Java-based application provides an intuitive interface for creating protected storage volumes, logging events, managing preferences, and monitoring storage hardware from virtually any networked computer over TCP/IP."

The company describes the following main fixes in the release:

RAID Admin correctly displays when Xserve RAID is in JBOD (Just A Bunch Of Discs) mode.

The update addresses issues related to slower performing hard drives.

It also changes the procedure for adding drives and moving arrays to prevent inadvertently overwriting array drives, an event that could happen in previous versions of the software.

"Allows Write cache flushing to be disabled to prevent throughput drops when used in realtime applications (such as video capture)."

Xserve RAID Admin 1.5 also improves compatibility related to certain fibre channel switches and devices.
