In an odd attempt to combine environmental concerns with commuting, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched an annual list of the 'Best Commuter' companies, with Apple seizing twelfth place.

The initiative is an attempt to combat air pollution by the Kyoto-denying United States. The EPA hopes to encourage Fortune 500 companies to compete for top spots on the list.

Leading companies on this list include a number of firms who emphasize telecommuting. The EPA wants US firms to offer benefits such as $30 or more each month for commuting costs, emergency rides home for parents with children, and shower or locker rooms for bike riders.
