Apple's new iPod MP3 player bears the same name as Intel's digital PBX (Private Branch Exchange) system.

Intel's iPod stands for Internet Phone Over Data. The digital-PBX system, launched last week, is a gateway for converting telephone messages into Internet Protocol for transmission over the Internet.

Neither Apple nor Intel was unavailable for comment.

The iPod will get its first UK outing at MacExpo 2001, which takes place from November 22 to 24 at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London N1.

The iPod will cost £349 (including VAT).
