Mac OS X-using Atari Lynx fans can now download a freeware emulator that plays Atari's retro games-classics on Apple's next-generation operating system.

Handy/MacOS supports Atari Lynx ROMs. Developer Richard Bannister admits that some titles don't work, but claims the majority are supported. It supports full sound-emulation and can scale the Lynx screens by up to 500 per cent, delivering resolutions of up to 800-x-600 pixels.

Bannister claims his emulator was the first on the Mac to support the loading of compressed ROM-images. As well as being Carbonized, this version is more robust, and offers 16-bit colour video. To run, it requires a 150MHz or faster Power Macintosh.
