Leading digital photography expert and Macworld contributor Ben Long has released a major update to his Photoshop Action Pack collection of Automator actions.

The collection is essential to any photographer wanting to automate their Photoshop workflow, because Mac OS X 10.4 offers no standard Automator plug-ins for Photoshop. Long's Action Pack provides 71 Automator Actions for Photoshop CS1 and CS2.

The actions are available as a 10.9MB free download from Long's Complete Digital Photography website.

Photoshop does include its own automation mechanism - the Actions palette - but Automator is a more flexible solution, partially because its actions can be built to work across multiple applications.

The collection also includes filter actions to organise clutches of images using different criteria.

This version of Photoshop Action Pack includes new actions and uses a new architecture that is more stable and faster than before. A 61-page electronic manual is included, along with tutorials and sample workflows.

Long said: "The Photoshop Action Pack is still free, but donations are heartily accepted and cheerfully spent on indulgent frivolities."
