The BBC has released 80 news reports covering key historical moments for not-for-profit video remixers to play with.

Available segments include BBC coverage of such historically important events as the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tiananmen Square and footage of the England team before their World Cup victory in 1966.

The BBC says: "You are welcome to download the clips, watch them, and use them to create something unique. This is a pilot and we want to understand your creative needs. We'd like to see your productions and showcase some of the most interesting ones we receive.

Use of the clips is subject to the BBC's Creative Archive Licence, which requests that mixes not be sold or used to endorse charities or business interests.

The aim is to stimulate creative uses of video in a pilot scheme to assess what the new digitally-creative audience wants. "Don't just consume, create!" the company urges users.
