Apple is slashing the price of its 733MHz CD-RW PowerMac G4s, Macworld can reveal.

Roger Whittle, owner of Jigsaw Systems - a leading UK Mac mail-order company - told us that the old G4 is £650 cheaper, at £1,299. Apple's original price for this model was £2,149. Apple's price cut is expected to reach retail channels.

The move extends Apple's pre-Expo price cuts, which saw significant reductions for the dealer channels. The price-cutting moves are a bid by Apple to minimize stocks of older units to make way for the new G4s.
