British Telecom bungling has meant the Apple Care Protection Plan telephone number has been out of action since Friday – sparking fury among Apple's priority support-service's paying customers.

Apple spokesman David Millar told Macworld: "The fault lies with BT, who disconnected Apple's support line on Friday. We expect the priority number should be up and running again today."

The original number is reportedly up and running agaian as of 11am this morning, but Apple says members who encounter problems should call 0870 876 0753 – Apple's general Apple Care support line – and quote their Apple Care Protection Plan registration number. This will ensure that their enquiry will be prioritized.

Millar added: "We are sorry for the inconvenience."
