Square Box Systems has released CatDV 5.0, a major update to its media asset database and video logging tool.
CatDV 5.0 will import and catalogue just about any kind of media file, the company explains. The software offers advanced media logging tools, including automatic scene detection and the Verbatim Logger. Users can also field CatDV to create a network-searchable repository of clips for sharing between editors and producers.
In addition, users can import and export Final Cut Pro XML files, for the seamless exchange of clip logging information and sequences between CatDV database and Final Cut Pro.
Through a streamlined interface, this new version adds support for editing sequences directly within CatDV, so a producer searching the database of available clips can create a rough cut sequence to preview the clips, prior to sending it to the editing suite for finishing.
The software is now also capable of cataloguing associated files, such as project files, spreadsheets and text documents.
Software is available for Mac OS X and Windows. CatDV 5.0 Professional Edition costs $275, with upgrades available from $99.
