Ahead Software's CD-recording application, NeroMAX, will be available from the end of October.

Record On its release, the rival to Adaptec Toast will be able to record most common CD formats - including HFS and ISO data, audio, video, hybrid, mixed mode and CD Extra. It also has a built in DiscDup copy feature, which enables the back up of CDs. Ahead already manufactures a similar utility for Windows.

The application will also convert analogue sound directly into CD-DA (Digital Audio) format before recording it to CD/RW.

The disc rescue feature will allow the checking of discs that refuse to load properly, or that cause unexpected errors during recording.

The application will be compatible with both USB and FireWire. The software is expected to cost $69, no UK price is available yet.
