Apple UK is offering
PowerBook customers the chance to upgrade to a Combo (CD-RW/DVD) drive.

The offer applies to owners of 550MHz or 667MHz PowerBooks and runs from January 28 to March 30. Customers should check Apple's site on January 28 for details.

Only the 550MHz and 667MHz PowerBook G4 systems with DVD-ROM or CD-RW drives are eligible for this upgrade. The Combo drive does not fit in the structure of the PowerBook G4 400MHz and 500MHz systems.

For each user taking advantage of the offer, an Apple agent will verify the PowerBook's eligibility by checking its serial number. Once verification is complete, customers will be asked to provide shipping and billing information. When a Combo drive is in stock, a shipping box will be sent to the customer to despatch the PowerBook to an Apple Repair Centre. There is a £215 fee for the procedure.

In Europe, a number of qualified Apple Service Providers will also be able to perform the upgrade, though the price of the upgrade may differ from the Apple Recommended Price.
