Corel has appointed a new chief financial officer to replace Michael O'Reilly, who resigned at the end of last year.

New CFO John Blaine joins Corel from Sterling Commerce, where he served as vice-president and controller at the company's Ohio offices.

O'Reilly resigned in December 1999, for "personal reasons", but stayed at the company until a replacement was found. At the time of the announcement he was said to have no plans for the future.

Corel's CEO Michael Cowpland said: "John Blaine's multi-sector experience in finance and corporate affairs will be a major asset to our company. We are delighted to have him join our senior management team."
