Creative Technology has confirmed that some of its new range of music players ship with an unwanted extra - a Windows worm.

It appears 4,000 of Creative's Zen Neon music players are carrying the worm, called Wullik.b.

The news underlines a key risk in using music players that employ Windows technologies.

Because Windows is the dominant OS, many hackers dedicate their time to creating worms, viruses and other malware for such systems.

Devices that use Windows systems to run are therefore at risk from such incidents.

It appears the infected music players were despatched to Japan in late July, though a report indicates the worm won't affect a connected PC, "unless the user browses the device's file list and clicks on the infected file".

Shipments of the Zen Neon 5GB model have been temporarily suspended.
