Apple is to extend its "Cube with monitor" rebate to its UK customers, starting Monday.

Customers buying a Cube with any current Apple monitor will receive a voucher, entitling them to £250 cash back from the company. The offer ends December 31.

The 450MHz G4 Cube costs £1,249, the 500MHz – only available from the Apple Store – costs £1,599. The displays include the £349 17-inch CRT Studio Display, and the 15- and 22-inch Studio Displays, which cost £699 and £2,799 respectively.

Sales The rebate scheme is Apple's attempt to boost sales and an answer to criticism of the Cube's high price. The company has sold 107,000 Cubes since its launch last July.

Cube sales have been disappointing, which has badly damaged the company's relationship with investors. Mark Rogers, Apple UK's incoming managing director, was frank: "We had very aggressive marketing targets for the Cube. We were off target."

Apple has warned investors to expect poor results once again during the next quarter, which ends December.

Departing Apple UK MD Brendan O'Sullivan said he is "personally surprised at the extent" of Apple's fall from grace on Wall Street. He pointed out Apple's continued profitability, lack of debt and strong cash reserves. He added: "We are continuing to grow our market share."
