4D UK has upgraded its database-development solution to version 6.7.

The software is used to create Web and client-server applications, 4D 6.7 supports Mac OS 8.5 and higher.

Rob Wylie, general manager of 4D UK, said: “Next year we hope to release a Mac OS X version of 4D 6.7 within 90 days of Mac OS X shipping.”

WAP support New features include built-in secure socket layers (SSL) support for increased security, WAP support, and a Web assistant that can publish 4D applications directly onto the Web.

The product includes 4D Open for Java 6.7. This lets developers develop Java clients for 4D Server 6.7 and offers functions beyond basic data manipulation and queries – including the creation of multiple-client processes and record sets.

New development features include 4D Components – libraries of code that can be made private, protected or public.

Image handling has also been improved - 4D 6.7 uses QuickTime 4, meaning developers can save pictures in a number of common image formats, including GIF, JPEG, PNG and FlashPix.

The stand-alone version costs £195 and an unlimited-user license is available for £495, only from 4D UK (01625 536 178).
