Apple Europe’s Vice President Diego Piacentini is to join Amazon.com, according to Macintosh Web site, AppleInsider.

Piacentini is to step down from his position at Apple at the end of the quarter, for personal reasons. The move is unrelated to the recent job cuts at Apple marketing’s European offices.

It is not yet known what his new position at Amazon.com will be, but his new job will involve a move to Seattle, Washington, where the headquarters are located.

Amazon.com started up in 1995, with its online book-buying site. Since then, 13 million have used Amazon.com to buy products, and the company has added DVDs, toys, games and electronics to its product line.
