Apple has begun shipping its recently announced dual-1.42GHz processor Power Mac G4 in the US and UK, sources have confirmed.

The company has updated the front page of its US Web site with the news. and Apple UK has confirmed that the product is shipping now in the UK.

The new model costs £2,099. Along with dual-1.42GHz G4 processors, it offers 2MB L3 cache per processor, 512MB DDR RAM, a 120GB hard drive, FireWire800, a built-in 56K modem, and a four-speed SuperDrive. The product also features ATI's Radeon 9000 Pro with 64MB DDR memory for graphics processing. Additional features include four USB 1.1 ports and 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet.

Apple's professional desktop Macs are built to be expandable, offering four high-performance 64-bit 333MHz PCI slots and two external-drive bays for optical drives The Macs also offer four 3.5-inch hard-disk-drive expansion bays.

The software bundle includes the full iLife package of iTunes3, iPhoto2, iMovie3, and iDVD3.
