The US movie industry has lost its appeal in the case of so-called DVD Jon.

Jon Lech Johansen had pleaded not guilty to charges that he broke Norwegian law by helping break the code on commercial DVDs.

In January a court said that he was free to do what he wanted with DVDs he bought legally – the US movie industry appealed against this earlier acquittal and urged a suspended 90-day jail term for Johansen.

Johansen was not present to hear the verdict, he was on holiday in France.
