Emusic - the only legal Mac online music-download service outside the US – is now offering an improved service for Mac OS X.

In addition to Windows support Emusic Download Manager 2.0 now offers full support for Mac and Linux systems. The new software "dramatically improves the downloading experience for Mac and Linux customers", Emusic Inc. claims.

Emusic subscribers must now use Emusic's software to download tracks from a library of 200,000 songs. The company has put a 45-track per-session ceiling on its service, to ensure "consistent download performance and to minimize download issues".

An Emusic spokesperson added: "Delivering consumers open MP3s and unlimited downloads is key to a successful music subscription service. Emusic was created to be an interactive site for subscribers to discover, sample and download music.

"We make these changes in order to keep delivering you, the avid music fan, a service that allows you to use your music the way you want."

Emusic offers a month's free trial, with 50 free MP3 downloads. Pricing starts at $9.99 per month (on a 12-month subscription), or $14.99 per month for a three month subscription.
