Independent developers Teng Chou Ming and Peter Hardman have released Extension Overload version 5.8.

This award-winning shareware utility contains detailed information on extensions and Control Panels, Control Strip modules and Contextual Menu items in Mac OS 7 to 9.1.

As an extensions-management utility, it will enable and disable extensions without opening the System Folder. The 4,580-item database contains descriptions of 3,050 Extensions, 1,100 Control Panels, 275 Control Strip Modules and 155 Contextual menu items. The database contains information on both Apple and non-Apple items.

The utility contains a searchable database of system error codes, and will generate reports to help users track extensions and Control Panels. The product has been recommended by influential Web-tool resource, Tucows.

It's available for download, and registration costs $25. The utility can be used for free for a two week evaluation period.
