Farallon has launched an 11MB cross-platform wireless PC card for PowerBooks.

The card, which has a 150-foot range, is compatible with multiple networking protocols, including TCP/IP, IPX and AppleTalk. It can also communicate with all wireless devices and industry access points which adhere to the 802.11 industry standard.

The card is configurable, handling all network protocols. Companies with legacy products can get real-time network access wirelessly. The SkyLINE 11MB features 40-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Protection) encryption support for data security..

The card automatically steps down from 11Mbps to 5.5Mbps, 2Mbps and 1Mbps when users move away from an access point to ensure the maximum range. The card is interoperable with Apple's AirPort technology, and also works with Windows 95/98 or NT notebooks with a Type II PCMCIA slot. Shipping in April, the SkyLINE 11MB will be available from Computers Unlimited and Softline Distribution for £230.
