FileMaker Mobile Companion for I-mode, which will be announced in early February, joins FileMaker Mobile 2, which allows users of Palm OS-based personal digital assistants (PDAs) access to FileMaker databases.
I-mode is a mobile Internet-access system, giving equipped devices rich access to the Internet, and to much Web-published information. I-mode users will be able to view and input data via a mobile phone. FileMaker Mobile will be launched in Japan initially –the only place where I-mode is available.
Launched by DoCoMo in February 1999, the system is based on Compact HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and has attracted over 30 million users in Japan.
FileMaker Mobile Companion for I-mode will be launched in other territories as I-mode services become more widely available, and is expected to reach the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany first, with the US expected to follow. The solution is expected to cost around $75.
