Kingston Technology has announced a new range of USB-connected touch-verification products.

The Kingston IdentiGuard will tie passwords up to individual fingerprints. It uses a patented imaging technology, capable of capturing up to 9,000 unique identifying characteristics of a fingerprint. The company call IdentiGuard "the first line of fingerprint-verification products designed to meet the requirements of security-minded IT managers, yet simple and convenient enough for home users".

It will work with Web site passwords – including banking and e-commerce sites, and can be used to ensure files and documents on a hard drive can only be accessed by the machine's owner. The product is available in laptop ($199) and desktop ($159) varieties.

MacCentral reports that a Mac version of this product is planned for release in the first half of 2001.
