UK online retailer Firebox has confirmed it's an online shopping bonanza this Christmas.

The company this morning confirmed itself to have seen 100 per cent growth in its sales, in comparison to this time last year. The news comes as high street retailers experience relatively flat growth this Christmas season.

James Roper, CEO of the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) said: "The latest online shopping sales figures show that online shopping is currently growing 130 times faster than high street sales. Internet shopping's rate of increase accelerated to 40 per cent year-on-year in October, while total retail sales for the month were up just 0.3 per cent on October 2004."

Richard Roche, head of multi-channel retail at the Royal Mail, said: "Online shopping has revitalised the way millions of people shop and has breathed new life into more traditional forms of shopping." "
