Opera Software has released a free beta Mac OS X Web browser – Opera 5 for Carbon Beta 1.

Opera 5 runs natively in Mac OS X, and offers Keychain support and auto-completion of URLs. The browser also has an extra button-set in addition to the default Opera button-set, which blends into the Mac OS X design.

A total of 13 World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards are supported, including 128-bit encryption, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) 2 and 3 and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

Other features include powerful search-facilities, with users able to navigate between the search engines, as well as search for terms, domain names or stock quotes.

Opera 5 for Mac OS X Carbon Beta 1 is available as a free download. It times out on November 15.
