Freescale's Developer Technology Organization (formerly Metrowerks) will make CodeWarrior Development Studio for Mac OS X available as a download today, Monday, October 31.

The once Mac industry standard development application now costs just $99. A free limited-feature version will be available for students.
'This final CodeWarrior offering for the Mac OS allows CodeWarrior customers to maintain their current code bases for PowerPC systems into the future,' a company representative said.

Freescale's Developer Technology Organization plans to provide email support for its CodeWarrior for Mac products until the end of this year, and also plans to continue to provide support via newsgroups and other developer forums.
The release includes:

Support for Mac OS X 10.4, as well as PowerPC applications on the upcoming next-generation OS from Apple;

PowerPlant X framework for Mach-O development, which lets developers write native Mac OS X code using Mac OS X supported features;

Enhanced code generation and build speed improvements; and

Support for Objective-C: code completion, syntax colouring and search comments.
