Apple has withdrawn its recently released firmware update (4.1.9) for Power Macs G4s.

The other firmware updates – for G4 Cubes and slot-loading iMacs – are still available. The update has been removed because it could cause malfunctions in the sound performance of AGP Power Macs.

The firmware update includes improvements to starting up Mac OS X from the local hard disk; FireWire target-disk mode; network startup; and system stability.

The update also adds support for additional security options that allow the Open Firmware to be password-protected.
