Google has opened up access to its free Gmail email service to people using browsers in mobile phones, the company announced.

Gmail Mobile can be accessed from handsets offered by US carriers including some from Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, BenQ, Sanyo, LG Electronics and Toshiba Corp.

The service is accessed from and a full list of compatible phones can on Google's support pages.

Gmail can also be accessed through a web interface or email client.
