Apple board member and former US vice president Al Gore is reportedly close to acquiring his own cable network, Newsworld International.

Gore would acquire the network from Vivendi Universal in a deal expected to cost $70 million, He is planning use the acquisition to create a liberal-leaning TV channel in an attempt to counterbalance the conservative networks that currently dominate the US media, led by the right-wing Fox News network.

The channel currently reaches 20 million homes and has revenue of $19 million.
