iPod mini hard drive maker, Hitachi, has seen a huge profit rise in the first half of the year.

Profits rose eightfold. The company now anticipates a full-year profit of $941.2 million - six times last year's achievements.

Consolidated net profit at Hitachi, which makes products ranging from nuclear power plants to tiny hard disk drives for Apple, totalled 41.16 billion yen in April-September, versus 5.38 billion yen a year earlier.

Operating profit came to 127.33 billion yen, compared with 20.24 billion yen a year before. Sales rose 7.1 per cent to 4.33 trillion yen.
