Hewlett-Packard has launched the new ScanJet 4400c and 5400c series of scanners, which comprises the 4400c, 4470c, the 5400c, 5470c and 5490c.

Each scanner features dual-sensor CCD-scanning technology, and delivers preview scans in four seconds and full-image scans in eight seconds, according to HP.

The five devices each have a scan-to-CD button that enables scanned images to be saved straight to a CD. They also feature Scan, Email, Share-to-Web, Copy, Photo Reprint, Cancel and Powersave buttons. The Share-to-Web feature is not available as standard on the 4400c, but can be included with its software.

True colour The entire line features dual-sensor CCD technology, which scans "true 48-bit colour". The scanners also have resolutions of up to 2,400dpi, HP claims.

The 4400c (£75) and 4470c (£92) both ship with Trellix Web-site creation software. The ScanJet 4470c has an adaptor for scanning 35mm slides and negatives.

The 5400c (£126), 5470c (£169) and 5490c (£237) each bundles with Corel Print Office 2000 for manipulating scanned images. The 5470c and 5490c also include an adaptor that scans 35mm slides and negatives. The entire range ships in October.
