Apple has posted an update to iChat AV, the video-conferencing application that works with the iSight Web cam.

Version 2.1 adds support for video conferencing with the AOL Instant Messenger 5.5 for Microsoft Windows.

According to Apple it gives you "immediate access to the millions of people in both the Mac and PC communities".

A beta version has been available since February 5.

It is a 4.3MB download available via Software Update. It requires Mac OS X 10.3, a broadband connection, and a FireWire-based video camera and 600MHz Mac for video conferencing.

When iChat AV and the iSight were launched last June, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said: "iChat AV is a major breakthrough in communications."
